Joby Talbot: Path of Miracles
Noah Horn, Music Director

Forget Everest, this musical journey is unlike any other! Path of Miracles takes you on a pilgrimage through sound, following the epic Camino de Santiago route. Think stunning landscapes... except they're made of soaring vocals and intricate, mind-blowing harmonies.

Each movement hits a different stop on the path, with music that's as diverse as the pilgrims themselves. You'll hear ancient chants, soulful hymns from all over the world, and even a taste of Taiwanese tribal music.

Plus, the lyrics are a mix of languages, just like the people you'd meet on a real pilgrimage. It's a beautiful reminder that faith and music can connect us all, no matter where we're from.

Cantata Singers Concert- A Map to the Next World Premiere

Scott Perkins:
A Map to the Next World
Noah Horn, Music Director

A Map to the Next World is an ambitious, new, concert-length work about caring for our fragile and precious planet. Composer Scott Perkins takes us on a journey from creation, to destruction, to reconciliation and renewal through a nine-part choir, strings, percussion, and celesta. Drawing upon Indigenous American folklore and using words by seven celebrated poets, environmentalists, activists, and anthropologists—Tamiko Beyer, Rachel Carson, Harold Courlander, Joy Harjo, Rachel Morgan, Jay Parini, and Judith Wright—A Map to the Next World helps to guide us in our continued search for new paths as custodians of the earth.

Performance of The Telephone and La Voix Humaine

Performance of The Telephone and La Voix Humaine

In a clever pairing of two chamber operas by famed Italian-American and French composers Menotti and Poulenc, we’ll experience The Telephone and La voix humaine (The Human Voice) in the same evening.

In The Telephone, a man tries repeatedly to get his girlfriend's attention so he can propose. Phone glued to her ear, she refuses to disengage from her conversations until the man makes a call to her himself.

La voix humaine recounts a similar scenario, though this couple is a pair of former lovers. A story replete with deceit, suspicion, and confusion, we are left wondering the true nature of their relationship and what its failure means for us.

As our own world continues down a path of technological revolution—artificial intelligence and virtual reality becoming ever more ingrained—perhaps we can consider that which distracts us from the relationships in our lives that matter most.
